The Function of the Heart
The heart is the strongest muscle in the human body. Although the structures that make up the body may appear to be infinitely complicated, the heart is the one structure that is infinitely simple. It is a machine that pumps blood throughout a human body. In other words, the heart sustains life. As a passionate student at Loyola University Chicago, I believe the most beautiful moments in our life are not determined by how our mind thinks but by how our heart feels.
To be perfectly honest, I initiated this precalculus project even before attending this prestigious institution. I have an avid interest in nature and since I first set my eyes upon Loyola, I enthusiastically took silent nature walks by myself across campus east and west. I still take these walks. And whenever I do, I try to look beyond the normalcy; beyond what our eyes simply see. For there is so much more meaning in what lies beneath. My nature walks take the same form but every time I embark on one I stumble upon something different and beautiful in its own lovely way. The lake is brilliant because still waters run deep. The waves are One; without each other they are incomplete. The Ginkgo tree is legendary for being one of the most unique and oldest plant species that exist. No wonder its roots are still planted firmly in Loyola’s soil for what could best represent it? The colors of Fall tell me to walk tall despite all the hardships and obstacles that come my way. This is what I believe this precalculus project wants me to accomplish: Seeing without the eyes. Learning beyond the classroom. Listening to more than just the whisper of the wind. Realizing that beauty surrounds you.
So why the heart? Other than being the driving force that sustains life and allowing me to feel the way I feel on such nature walks,..the heart is a symbol of passion, the heart is a symbol of Love. Love is beautiful like the Lake. Love is All-encompassing like the waves. Love is exquisite, unique, and legendary like the Ginkgo tree. Most importantly, my nature walks have taught me not to Fall in Love but to Rise in it instead...What is the function of the Heart? The heart is the home of Love. I believe God is Love. In this sense: The Heart is the Home of God...God abides in the Heart <3
